For traveling with pets, the MarCELL monitor is the better choice. While MarCELL Pro has more features (monitoring temperatures below 0°F, 5 second update intervals instead of 10 seconds, etc), none of them are relevant to pet temperature monitoring.

MarCELL Pro monitor is a good option for pharmaceutical or food supply safety, specialty greenhouse environments, etc. However, it has a higher device cost as well as higher ongoing monthly subscription fees.

Do I need MarCELL Pro in order to get real-time alerts?

You do not need MarCELL Pro in order to get real-time alerts for unsafe temperatures, humidity changes or power outages. The standard MarCELL monitor provides all the same real-time alerts as MarCELL Pro does (although this is widely misrepresented across the internet, so it leads to a lot of confusion.)

Should I get a cellular pet temperature monitor, or one that connects to WiFi or Bluetooth instead?

Cellular pet monitors are usually the best option for traveling with pets. Unlike WiFi temperature monitors, cellular-based monitors can operate even when the power is out (which is exactly when you need them.)

Bluetooth temperature monitors rely on proximity between the monitor and your phone for alerts to work (similar to how a baby monitor that has a limited range) so they aren't a workable solution if you plan on being more than a few hundred feet away from your pets. Even a grocery store parking lot is often too much distance for safety alerts to reliable transmit with Bluetooth monitors.

Does MarCELL pet temperature monitor work in Canada?

Yes, MarCELL pet temperature monitors work in Canada and Mexico, in addition to the United States. The AT&T MarCELL monitor will work in Canada indefinitely, while the Verizon MarCELL monitor will work in Canada for 90 consecutive days (after which, you must reconnect to US cell networks before international use will reset.)
